About this wine

Character

A Muscadet built on texture rather than fruit. The 14.0% ABV brings density rather than warmth, the acidity stays lively, and salinity carries the finish. Dry, precisely structured, with grip.

Terroir and origin

Domaine Luneau-Papin is located in Le Landreau, in Muscadet Sèvre et Maine. Pierre-Marie Luneau runs the estate in the ninth generation together with his wife Marie, farming close to 30 hectares biodynamically. The plots lie across a patchwork of granite, gneiss and schist; some of the vines have been rooted since the 1940s.

Grape variety and vinification

Melon de Bourgogne, a single-varietal wine. The grape absorbs whatever the soil gives it, becoming here an amplifier of the geology. In the cellar, the wines rest for at least 16 months on fine lees, in enamelled concrete tanks, without racking or any addition of sulphur until bottling. The result is smoothness rather than plain acidity. Bottled as Vin de France.

On the palate

Pale straw yellow in the glass, with lemon and white blossom on the nose over a note of wet stone. The attack is taut, the mid-palate full and fine-grained, the finish saline and long.

Food pairings

With oysters and shellfish, with pan-fried fish with herb butter, with prawns or fish with beurre blanc. Veal and goat's cheese also pair well with its saline structure.

Special features

Organic farming since 2008, biodynamic since 2014, Demeter and Biodyvin certification since 2019; the Demeter logo appears on the label. In 2015, Wine & Spirits named the estate "International Winery of the Year".
