About this wine

Character

Les Manyes 2011 from Terroir al Limit is a Grenache from Priorat that works through fragrance. The nose opens floral with violet, rose, lavender and ivy, underpinned by plum, raspberry drops and rosehip, alongside ethereal orange zest, incense and eucalyptus. The fine minerality keeps this sweetness from tipping into the merely pleasant.

Terroir and origin

Les Manyes sits at the top of the cru hierarchy that Terroir al Limit has structured after the Burgundian model. Limestone and clay soils shape the wine's finely structured minerality. Dominik Huber and Tatjana Peceric farm 15 hectares around Torroja del Priorat organically and biodynamically, meeting the hot summers with biodynamic preparations in the vineyard and harvesting early.

Grape variety and vinification

100% Grenache. Since 2009 the estate has worked with whole-cluster infusion: the berries stay whole, there is no pump-over through the cap, and pigeage is no longer practised. The result is 13.5% ABV and a dry wine whose structure rests on precision rather than extraction.

On the palate

The sweet fruit from the nose is confirmed, led by sour cherry and plum. Acidity and tannin are fine-grained and polished, while sage, mint and boxwood refresh the finish. The 2011 is ready to drink now, yet its development over the coming years remains exciting to follow.

Food pairings

Monkfish pan-fried in a Serrano ham crust on beetroot carpaccio, chamois leg with rosehip sauce and crispy rosemary potatoes, or rabbit braised in balsamic vinegar with porcini and truffle.

Special features

Dominik Huber founded the estate in 2004 together with Eben Sadie, who departed in 2012; today he runs it with Tatjana Peceric as head winemaker. The 2016 vintage from the Les Manyes vineyard was the first Spanish wine to receive 100 points from the Wine Advocate.
