About this wine

Character

"Llum" means light, and the wine lives up to its name: fresh, sensual and light-footed, with clear fruit over a cool, mineral core. At 12.0 % vol., it holds juiciness and tension together.

Terroir and origin

The vines stand in Montner on the north-facing slope of Força Real, sheltered from the scorching Mediterranean sun. Marjorie and Stéphane Gallet farm 25 hectares there across twenty plots up to 400 metres in altitude, biodynamically and with an average yield of 15 hectolitres per hectare. The varieties grow on schist, ochre clay and limestone on the terraces of the Agly river; the altitude ensures cool nights.

Grape variety and vinification

Grenache gris and Grenache blanc from vines up to 100 years old form the base, complemented by smaller proportions of Macabeu, Carignan gris, Carignan blanc and Malvoisie. The grapes ferment spontaneously, ageing takes place in used barriques and tonneaux, with skilfully restrained, fine use of oak.

On the palate

On the nose, white and yellow flowers, raspberry, red apple, lemon, grapefruit and pineapple, underscored by wet stone, a touch of brine, a hint of flint and tonic water. On the palate, juicy and elegant, the fruit is round and white-fleshed with ripe pear, again pineapple and citrus notes. The acidity is agile, forceful and intense.

Special features

The Llum is the estate's white entry-level wine. Marjorie Gallet learned the fundamentals of biodynamic work from Gérard Gauby and has run the domaine together with Stéphane since 2008, who contributes his expertise in oxidative ageing. The name Roc des Anges derives from a white quartz rock found among the vineyards.
