About this wine

Character

A Blanc de Blancs with a complex, balanced nose: delicate herbal spice and brioche, alongside white blossom, lemon, stone and pome fruit and chalk. Everything interlocks seamlessly.

Terroir and origin

The Chardonnay vines grow in Vertus, Oger, Avize and Cramant on the Côte des Blancs. The soil is pure chalk, the foundation of these wines' vibrant minerality. Pierre Larmandier farms 16 hectares across 17 parcels with his wife Sophie and son Arthur, biodynamically since 1999; he had already banned herbicides from the vineyards back in 1992.

Grape variety and vinification

Single-varietal Chardonnay, spontaneously fermented with natural yeasts, aged in large wooden foudres from the Austrian cooperage Stockinger, neither filtered nor fined. The Longitude is a cuvée of up to nine vintages with 40% reserve wines, matures for more than 24 months sur lattes and receives four grams of dosage after disgorgement. 12.5% vol.

On the palate

Rich and opulent, yet dry: the wine has drive while staying clear, fresh and precise. Yellow citrus stands out slightly and meets the herbal spice. The acidity balances the fullness of the reserve wines and holds the tension between the ripe, expansive and the young, austere Chardonnay. The finish is long, deep and well balanced.

Food pairings

Salt-crusted sea bass with lemon and capers, guinea fowl pie with wild herb salad or Bresse blue-footed chicken, stuffed with chicken liver and truffles.

Special features

Larmandier-Bernier was among the first biodynamic estates in Champagne. The bottles come without a capsule. In magnum format, ageing on the lees proceeds more slowly; Arthur Larmandier has been part of the estate since 2017.
