About this wine

Character

A dry Riesling from Franconia that favours clarity over fullness. Its 13.0% ABV speaks of ripeness, yet the wine stays cool and taut in expression, carried by a mineral vein.

Terroir and origin

The VDP.Grosse Lage Maustal lies near Sulzfeld on a steep south-facing slope directly above the Main river. The shell limestone in the subsoil gives the Riesling its stony backbone. The Zehnthof Luckert winery has belonged to the VDP since 1955 and ranks among the founding estates of Germany's top classification.

Grape variety and vinification

Pure varietal Riesling, spontaneously fermented with wild yeasts. Cellar master Philipp Luckert ages the wine in traditional large Spessart oak barrels and bottles it unfiltered with only minimal sulphur addition.

On the palate

The nose shows white peach, citrus zest and damp limestone, followed by a hint of roasted hazelnut. On the palate the wine stays precise: green apple and grapefruit over fine phenolics, with a long, saline finish.

Food pairing recommendations

With pan-seared turbot, with asparagus and hollandaise sauce, and with Franconian Schäufele. It also pairs well with Asian dishes featuring lemongrass and an aged Comté.

Special features

The Zehnthof Luckert winery was named VINUM Winery of the Year 2025 and has held five Eichelmann stars continuously since 2016. Wolfgang and Ulrich Luckert cultivate all four Silvaner variants — green, yellow, red and blue. The Naturland certification has been in place for over ten years.
