About this wine
Character
A dry Silvaner that draws its substance from the age of its vines: dense, mineral-driven, without embellishment. The 13.0% ABV supports a wine that is all about depth.
Terroir and origin
The Creutz vineyard lies near Sulzfeld in Franconia. Here stand Silvaner vines planted in 1870, own-rooted and ungrafted, on the same spot for 155 years. They survived the phylloxera catastrophe and both World Wars. The parcel ranks among Germany's oldest Silvaner plantings, the soils are marked by shell limestone, and yields are minuscule.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Silvaner. Cellar master Philipp Luckert consistently ferments spontaneously with natural yeasts. Aging takes place in the traditional large Spessart oak cask, unfiltered and with minimal sulfur.
On the palate
Shell limestone and roasted hazelnut define the profile, joined by a delicate spice. The acidity runs clear and precise, while the phenolics from the old vines carry a long, dry finish.
Food pairings
Pan-fried turbot with butter sauce, rosé-roasted veal fillet, or quail breast with nuts. Equally good with asparagus, with aged mountain cheese, and with mature Comté.
Special features
Wolfgang and Ulrich Luckert work in the prince-bishop's Zehnthof, dating from 1558, and are the only winery in the world to cultivate all four Silvaner variants: green, yellow, red, and blue. VINUM named the estate Winery of the Year in 2025.
