About this wine
Character
The Marsannay rouge "Les Longeroies" 2022 is a village wine from a named site that shows the Domaine Bruno Clair signature in its purest form: clear, juicy fruit, fine austerity and a taut, saline line. Slender yet deep in structure, with silky tannin and a long, mineral finish.
Terroir and origin
Marsannay forms the northern prelude to the Côte de Nuits and has been its own appellation since 1987. The Les Longeroies site lies at the southern end of the commune towards Couchey, on well-drained calcareous clay. The domaine is based in Marsannay-la-Côte and farms 27 hectares across eight villages of the Côte d'Or, yielding 32 appellations.
Grape variety and vinification
Pinot Noir, spontaneously fermented. For the domaine's red wines, 20 to 50 percent whole clusters go into the fermentation vat, with extraction kept moderate. Ageing lasts 18 to 20 months in barriques with 20 to 50 percent new oak. Clarification happens naturally over time, so the wine is bottled without cosmetic intervention. In the vineyard, cover cropping and the avoidance of herbicides are standard practice.
On the palate
On the nose, cherry and raspberry, alongside a floral note, fine spice and a restrained toasty note from the barrel. The body stays medium, the acidity vibrant, the tannin silky; the finish carries on, saline and long.
Food pairings
Coq au vin and roast duck breast match the structure, while mushroom risotto and country-style terrine echo the fruit. For cheese, aged Comté is an ideal match.
Special features
Bruno Clair founded the domaine in 1986 with seven hectares drawn from the dissolved family estate Clair-Daü, established in 1919 through the marriage of Joseph Clair and Marguerite Daü. Today the sixth generation is involved: Edouard in the vineyard since 2010, Arthur in cellar ageing since 2018, Margaux in logistics. 13.0% ABV, dry.
