About this wine
Character
A Chardonnay that reveals its origin without detour: crystalline clarity, cool fruit, pronounced minerality. Rémi Jobard puts the aim into his own words — everything in the vineyard and cellar serves to let the terroir express itself transparently and unveiled. This premier cru needs time, and the magnum format slows its development even further.
Terroir and origin
Le Poruzot-Dessus lies high on the slope of Meursault, between 230 and 280 metres. The clay-rich soils here produce powerful, age-worthy wines. The domaine farms nine hectares in Meursault; free of synthetic fertilisers and pesticides since 1994, and of herbicides since 1998. The vine rows are worked by hand and cover-cropped, fertilising has been abandoned, and cordon pruning keeps yields low.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Chardonnay. Pressing takes at least six hours, up to twelve for grapes picked in the afternoon — the lowest possible pressure, only the finest must, free of bitterness and unwanted phenols. This is followed by around 15 months in 600-litre casks from the Austrian master cooper Stockinger, made of French, Austrian and Slavonian oak; roughly a fifth is renewed each year. The larger volume means less wood contact per litre and a slower oxygen exchange. A resting period in tank follows. The wine remains unfiltered and gains its stability through two winters of ageing rather than technical intervention.
On the palate
Dense and full-bodied, carried by the power of the clay-rich soil. Yellow apple and citrus peel stay cool, underpinned by a stony freshness that keeps the wine taut through to the finish. Fine texture, silky tannin, no upfront oak.
Special features
The entire estate is Ecocert-certified. 13.5% vol., dry, bottled by Domaine Rémi Jobard in Meursault. The 1500 ml magnum is the format for long cellar ageing.
