About this wine
Character
The Meursault 1er Cru Le Poruzot-Dessus Élevage Prolongé 2023 is a Chardonnay of crystalline clarity, whose power comes from structure rather than oak. Instead of opulence, it offers taut minerality, cool fruit and a fine texture with silky tannin. A wine that needs air and time.
Terroir and origin
Le Poruzot-Dessus lies high on the slope of Meursault, between 230 and 280 metres. The clay-rich soils give the wine its powerful core and ageing potential. Rémi Jobard farms nine hectares in Burgundy organically: without synthetic fertilisers and pesticides since 1994, without herbicides since 1998, along with manual work in the rows, cover cropping and cordon pruning to limit yields.
Grape variety and vinification
100% Chardonnay. Pressing is done with the lowest possible pressure: grapes picked in the morning are pressed for at least six hours, those picked in the afternoon often overnight, for as long as twelve hours, so that only the finest must, free of bitter compounds, goes into the foudre. The wine matures for around 15 months in 600-litre foudres from cooper Stockinger, made of French, Austrian and Slavonian oak, of which around a fifth are renewed each year. This is followed by a further resting period in tank.
On the palate
Dense and taut, with lemon, wet flint and fresh hazelnut, carried by a creamy texture without toasty oak notes. The finish remains cool and mineral.
Food pairings
With pan-seared turbot in butter sauce, seared scallops, poached Bresse chicken in cream sauce and veal sweetbreads. A mature Comté also complements its mineral length.
Special features
Élevage Prolongé here means ageing over two winters: the unfiltered wine gains its stability through time rather than technical intervention. 13.0% vol., dry.
