About this wine
Character
The Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes 2024 is a Chardonnay from one of the Domaine Rémi Jobard's three Premier Cru vineyards, showing the velvety opulence that defines Les Charmes. Density and cool fruit are held in balance, with no toasty aromas overlaying the fruit character. A wine that needs time to unfold.
Terroir and origin
Domaine Rémi Jobard farms nine hectares in Meursault, including parcels in three Premier Crus. The vine rows are worked by hand, cover-cropped and left unfertilised, while cordon pruning keeps yields in check. Synthetic fertilisers and pesticides were abandoned in 1994, followed by herbicides in 1998.
Grape variety and vinification
100% Chardonnay. Grapes picked in the morning are pressed for at least six hours, those picked in the afternoon often overnight, for a full twelve hours. This ensures that only the finest must reaches the barrel, free of bitter compounds. Ageing lasts around 15 months in 600-litre barrels from the cooper Stockinger, made of French, Austrian and Slavonian oak, of which about a fifth is renewed each year. The larger volume means less wood contact per litre. The wine then rests in tank before being bottled unfiltered.
On the palate
Dense and velvety, with a silky structure and a cool freshness that carries the wine. Citrus and pale stone fruit, underscored by minerality and fine oak nuances. The finish lingers long. 13.0% vol., dry.
Food pairings
With pan-seared turbot in butter sauce, scallops or lobster with butter. Equally good with Bresse poularde with morels and aged Comté.
Special features
The entire estate is Ecocert-certified. The wines are bottled unfiltered and achieve their stability through two winters of ageing rather than technical intervention.
