About this wine
Character
A Chardonnay built on clarity: cool fruit, pronounced minerality, fine texture, with no intrusive toasty aromas. The wine doesn't announce itself loudly and needs time to open up.
Terroir and origin
Meursault in Burgundy. En Luraule is one of four lieux-dits from which Domaine Rémi Jobard draws its village wines, alongside Sous La Velle, Chevalières and Narvaux. In total, the estate farms nine hectares in the village. Since 1994 the domaine has worked without artificial fertilisers or pesticides, and without herbicides since 1998. The vine rows are worked by hand and cover-cropped, not fertilised, with cordon pruning keeping yields low.
Grape variety and vinification
Chardonnay. Two large presses allow for the gentlest possible pressure over many hours: grapes picked in the morning are pressed for at least six hours, those picked in the afternoon often overnight, a full twelve hours. This way only the finest must goes into the cask, free of bitter compounds. Ageing lasts around 15 months in 600-litre casks from cooper Stockinger, made of French, Austrian and Slavonian oak, of which only about a fifth is replaced each year, followed by a resting period in tank. "The wood should support the wine, not dominate it," says Rémi Jobard.
On the palate
Dry and taut, with citrus fruit and white blossom, underpinned by a clear mineral streak. The acidity leads, the texture stays fine, with 13.5% vol. carried without heaviness.
Distinctive features
The wine is bottled unfiltered, gaining its stability from two winters of ageing rather than technical intervention. The 1500 ml magnum is the format for longer cellaring.
