About this wine
Character
A white wine that draws its tension not from fruit, but from herbal spice, phenolics and texture. The nose is ethereal: herbal infusion, dried flowers, chamomile tea and yarrow, complemented by delicate citrus notes and a nutty undertone. In the glass, aged gold with brilliant highlights, with shades of orange and apricot.
Terroir and origin
The grapes come from various sites and soils across Priorat: clay, river deposits and slate, at altitudes between 400 and 600 metres. The vines are 50 to 80 years old. Dominik Huber runs Terroir al Limit in Torroja del Priorat together with Tatjana Peceric as head winemaker, across 15 hectares farmed organically and biodynamically, with early harvesting as a response to the hot summers.
Grape variety and vinification
Grenache blanc, Macabeu and Pedro Ximénez, three indigenous varieties in one cuvée. After gentle whole-cluster pressing, the wine matures for eight months in cement, with the Pedro Ximénez deliberately given an oxidative élevage. This accounts for the nutty depth and the colour. 13.0% vol., vinified dry.
On the palate
The entry is creamy and silky, the herbal spice from the nose returns austere and aromatic. Austere phenolics frame a fine extract sweetness reminiscent of liquorice and dried fruit. In its youth, the wine appears dense and tightly wound, more like a tincture than a fruit-driven wine, more knitted than woven.
Distinctive features
Terroir al Limit has worked with whole clusters since 2009, favouring infusion over extraction. This white wine reflects the same philosophy: restraint in the cellar, complexity in the glass. A decanter or large glasses are not an afterthought here, but a requirement.
