About this wine
Character
A nobly sweet Pinot Gris that combines concentration with lightness: 9.5% ABV, intense sparkling golden yellow with amber highlights. The nose shows sweet dry pastry, malt and honey, followed by light tobacco, dried fruit and floral notes of thyme, broom and chervil over a pronounced minerality.
Terroir and origin
Clos Jebsal is a single vineyard site of Domaine Zind-Humbrecht in Turckheim, Alsace. The grapes ripen early there, which makes selection easier and the harvest less dependent on autumn weather. Olivier Humbrecht, the first Frenchman to hold the title of Master of Wine, farms the estate's 42 hectares biodynamically; horses are once again at work on the steepest plots.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure varietal Pinot Gris at the Sélection de Grains Nobles level, meaning from highly concentrated, nobly sweet berries. Yields lie between 30 and 40 hectolitres per hectare, the wines spend at least six months on the lees, and no wine leaves the cellar before one to two years of ageing.
On the palate
A beautiful interplay of sweetness and acidity: juicy fruit, liquid blossom honey and lively herbal notes, kept in motion by the acidity. A sweet wine of the highest order, still very youthful and unpolished today.
Food pairings
With poultry and non-force-fed goose foie gras, with dessert and matured goat cheese.
Special features
Balance and finesse with near-endless ageing potential. The Humbrechts have been winegrowers since 1620, and since 2019 Pierre Émile Humbrecht has been working alongside them as the eleventh generation.
