About this wine
Character
A lusciously sweet Pinot Gris from Alsace that carries the richness of a late-harvest wine while remaining light on its feet. At 6.5% ABV, the wine carries its concentration without heaviness, glowing deep amber in the glass.
Terroir and origin
The Clos Windsbuhl is a monopole of Domaine Zind-Humbrecht. Olivier Humbrecht has farmed 42 hectares biodynamically since converting the first five hectares in 1996; on the steepest plots, horses are once again used to work the vines. Yields range between 30 and 40 hectolitres per hectare.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Pinot Gris, picked as Sélection de Grains Nobles, meaning from grapes shrivelled by Botrytis cinerea. The designation Trie Speciale refers to several picking passes, during which the berries are harvested individually from the vineyard. In the cellar, the estate's wines receive at least six months of lees contact, and no wine is released before one to two years of ageing.
On the palate
The nose offers liquid forest honey, candied orange peel and roasted almonds. The wine delivers on that promise: opulent, concentrated, with a velvety texture. Refreshing citrus notes provide lift, defining the long finish and brightening the sweetness.
Special features
Olivier Humbrecht was the first Frenchman to hold the title of Master of Wine, the family has been growing wine since 1620, and since 2019 Pierre Émile Humbrecht has worked at the estate as its eleventh generation. This 2005 vintage comes in a 375 ml bottle.
