About this wine
Character
A premier cru with a quiet touch: dry, taut, with a saline edge. Rather than richness and oaky sweetness, this Chardonnay shows lemon, white blossom and a chalky texture. Precision over breadth.
Terroir and origin
Hameau de Blagny is one of the premier cru sites of Puligny-Montrachet. In the heart of the village lies Domaine Thomas-Collardot, a 2.5-hectare family estate run by Jacqueline Collardot and her son Matthieu. The vines trace back to Jacqueline's grandfathers, Henri Chavy and Maurice Thomas; her father Pierre Thomas farmed them until 1992, after which they were leased to cousins. In 2010, Jacqueline Collardot reclaimed the parcels, trained at the CFPPA in Beaune, and bottled her first own vintage in 2015. Matthieu joined in 2018. Annual production stands at around 10,000 bottles.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Chardonnay, gently pressed, 24 hours of settling, then sixteen months on the fine lees in used 228-litre barrels that have already held two to four wines, so the oak stays in the background. Filtration is only light, there is no fining, and sulphur additions are largely avoided.
On the palate
Fine-grained texture, lively acidity, a long finish with a saline, chalky note. The 14.0% ABV stays well integrated into the wine's linear structure, which nonetheless feels lean.
Distinctive features
Before 2015, the grapes went to négociants; only from this vintage onward does the family vinify them itself. Besides Hameau de Blagny, the parcels Les Enseignères and Les Nosroyes also belong to the estate.
