About this wine

Character

A dry Chardonnay with a saline edge, taut citrus fruit and a fine chalky texture. No buttery toast, no clouds of vanilla, just clear lines: the signature of Jacqueline and Matthieu Collardot, who favour transparency over breadth in Puligny-Montrachet.

Terroir and origin

Domaine Thomas-Collardot is located right in the heart of Puligny-Montrachet on the Côte de Beaune and farms just 2.5 hectares, including parcels in Les Enseignères, Les Nosroyes and in the Premier Cru Hameau de Blagny. Les Folatières «Au Chaniot» is likewise classified as Premier Cru. The vines date back to Jacqueline's grandfathers, Henri Chavy and Maurice Thomas. Her father Pierre Thomas farmed them until 1992, after which they were leased to cousins. In 2010, Jacqueline Collardot took the vineyards back, trained at the CFPPA in Beaune, and bottled her first own vintage in 2015. Her son Matthieu joined in 2018.

Grape variety and vinification

Chardonnay, gently pressed, 24 hours of settling, aged in used 228-litre pièces that have already held two to four previous vintages. The Premier Cru wines mature for sixteen months on fine lees. Filtration is only light, there is no fining at all, and sulphur is used sparingly if at all.

On the palate

Dry at 12.5% Vol., taut and precise. Citrus fruit and citrus zest carry the mid-palate, the fine lees lend a delicate graininess, and the finish stays chalky and saline.

Special features

The 1500 ml magnum, from an annual production of around 10,000 bottles across the whole estate. Since 2015, vinification has taken place in the estate's own cellar; before that, the grapes went to négociants.
