About this wine
Character
A Pinot Noir of slender stature and serious depth, bottled in a 1500 ml magnum. The larger volume slows the wine's maturation and holds freshness and structure together over the years.
Terroir and origin
Les Santenots lies geographically within the commune of Meursault, but as a red wine made from Pinot Noir, it may carry the name Volnay. The soil combines calcareous marl with clay, giving the wine fullness without sacrificing suppleness. The 2022 vintage brought warmth and early ripeness, resulting in concentration while retaining freshness.
Grape variety and vinification
Rémi Jobard farms nine hectares in Meursault. The estate has worked without synthetic fertilizers and pesticides since 1994, and without herbicides since 1998; the vine rows are worked by hand and cover-cropped, and cordon pruning keeps yields low. In the cellar, the wines age for around 15 months in 600-litre Stockinger casks made of French, Austrian and Slavonian oak, of which roughly a fifth are renewed each year, before resting in tank. "The wood should support the wine, not dominate it," says Jobard. The unfiltered wine gains stability through two winters of aging rather than through technical intervention.
On the palate
Silky texture, carried by vibrant acidity and fine, well-integrated tannins. Cherry and raspberry remain clearly defined, and the finish draws out long and mineral.
Food pairings
With roasted duck breast and coq au vin, as well as with aged Comté and Époisses. Opened young, the wine benefits from generous aeration in a decanter.
Special features
Magnum format with 1500 ml, 13.0% vol., dry. Bottled by Domaine Rémi Jobard, 12 rue Sudot, in Meursault.
