About this wine

Character

A purist that rests within itself and appears composed. It opens with cool stone and graphite; only after extended contact with air do fruity nuances of lime, wild raspberry and Cavaillon melon rind emerge. In the glass, pale golden yellow with distinct green highlights.

Terroir and origin

The VDP.Grosse Lage vineyard Burgberg on the Nahe lies in a basin shape, framed by rocks from the Permian era, its structure reminiscent of an amphitheatre. Iron-rich clay and a high proportion of quartzite over Rotliegend bedrock give the Riesling its pronounced spice, smokiness and deep minerality on the finish. As early as 1901, the site was documented as first-class.

Grape variety and vinification

100 percent Riesling from selective hand harvest, gently pressed. Fermented with native yeasts, then long aged in multi-year wooden casks from local oak forests. Vinified dry, 12.5% vol.

On the palate

Power and finesse at once: the wine opens with a savoury note and pronounced acidity, leaving length and spice on the finish. A cool finesse built for further development.

Food pairings

With dishes featuring fish, mussels and seafood.
