About this wine

Character

A rosé Champagne that relies on aroma and tension rather than sheer body. The nose opens with a light note of flint, followed by red berries, barberry, red peach, blood orange and a touch of rhubarb, alongside lilac, mallow, cherry blossom and foliage. The overall impression remains bright and airy.

Terroir and origin

Écueil lies in the Petite Montagne de Reims, between limestone slopes and a small forest that shelters the microclimate. The soils are pure limestone, with mostly southern exposure. The estate comprises 8.5 hectares of Premier Cru in Écueil and Les Mesneux, 85 percent of it Pinot Noir. Géraldine and Richard took over the vines in 2008, the ninth generation, and immediately converted to organic farming. Today they work biodynamically: preparations made from nettle, horsetail and valerian instead of synthetic chemicals, hand harvesting, spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts.

Grape variety and vinification

100 percent Pinot Noir, 4 percent of which is vinified as white. The cuvée blends six base wines from two vintages, 52 percent from 2022 and 48 percent reserve wine. 38 percent aged for nine months in barriques whose oak comes from the forest of Écueil, just a few hundred metres from the vines. Bottled in July 2023, disgorged on 6 July 2025 with a dosage of 1.5 g/l.

On the palate

Fresh and juicy, with pale red fruit, a hint of foliage and stone, subtle sweetness, extract and fine tannins. A delicate salinity runs through the wine, its firm structure staying in balance with the airy style.

Notable features

The wood comes from the estate's own terroir, the cellar's barrels sourced from the forest of Écueil. The very low dosage leaves fruit, tannin and salinity unpadded and exposed.
