About this wine

Character

The Rosé "SABLE" VdF 2024 by Alône is a dry Provence rosé made from Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault. Powerful and intense at 14.0% vol., yet elegant, with length and finesse. Its colour is a medium coral.

Terroir and origin

The vines grow in a former sand pit in the Sainte-Baume Natural Park, at an altitude of 420 to 470 metres. Christian Ott and Pascale Jourdan discovered the site in 2019. The deep sand drains water almost instantly and forces the roots to dig deep, while wooded hills shield the vines from cold winds. During the day the grapes build up sugar, while the cool nights preserve acidity. This wide thermal range gives the varieties time to ripen slowly.

Grape variety and vinification

Syrah, Cinsault and Grenache are harvested parcel by parcel and vinified separately accordingly. The juices age on fine lees in stainless steel tanks, ceramic spheres and porcelain vessels until blending takes place. Instead of wood, Ott and Jourdan rely on egg-shaped ceramic spheres from Limoges, which work like amphorae but offer more modern insulation: the wine breathes, oxidises minimally and retains its fruit. This is complemented by indigenous yeasts and work according to the lunar calendar.

On the palate

The nose remains fragrant yet complex: grapefruit and blood orange juice along with their zest, salted lemon, nectarine and white currant, underscored by subtle herbal notes and sweet spice. The palate opens round and silky, then the fine minerality of the sandy soils takes hold. Alongside the juicy ripe fruit, zesty notes bring a crisp, tangy freshness, and the finish lingers long and saline.

Special features

The name reveals the terroir: Sable, the sandy, gravelly soil that gives this rosé its mineral salinity, together with wild herbs and a hint of mountain thyme. Bottled as Vin de France.
