About this wine
Character
A fragrant, dry rosé made from pure Pinot Noir, with aromas of sweet cherries, raspberries and wild strawberries, along with a touch of herbs and chalky stone. Fine and elegant, delicately etched and long-lasting.
Terroir and origin
Domaine Vacheron in Sancerre on the Loire is run by cousins Jean-Dominique and Jean-Laurent Vacheron, 46 hectares of vineyard in the fourth generation since founder Maurice Vacheron. Jean-Dominique gained experience in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Jean-Laurent with Aubert de Villaine in Burgundy. The grapes for this rosé come roughly 50% from Jurassic limestone, which lends freshness and liveliness, and 50% from Eocene flint, known as silex, which brings intense aromatics.
Grape variety and vinification
100% Pinot Noir. In recent vintages, the juice has been obtained both from direct pressing and from a saignée of the red wine. Fermentation in stainless steel, followed soon after by bottling: a method that lets fragrance and freshness take precedence.
On the palate
Dry, juicy and fresh, with a silky texture and fine pressure, underpinned by a subtle stony spiciness. A light tannin gives this Pinot Noir the seriousness one hopes for in such a wine, carrying its delicate finish.
Special features
Rosé is no afterthought here. The domaine farms biodynamically and is among the pioneers of this approach in the Sancerrois; its individual parcels are vinified separately so that each terroir can speak for itself.
