About this wine
Character
A rosé with a serious Pinot Noir signature, salmon-pink, radiant and clear in the glass. The nose offers wild raspberry, sour cherry, vine peach and blueberry, framed by spicy herbal notes of chervil and sorrel, topped by a lightly smoky note.
Terroir and origin
The single vineyard La Noue in Sancerre covers 2.5 hectares across seven parcels, planted with vines of varying ages, some up to a hundred years old. The soils consist of limestone, marl and the white chalky soils typical of Sancerre. Domaine Claude Riffault is located in the hamlet of Sury-en-Vaux on the Loire, where the family has been established for four generations; the estate is now run by Stéphane and Bénédicte Riffault.
Grape variety and vinification
100% Pinot Noir, hand-harvested. The wine combines a saignée component with direct pressing of whole clusters, ferments spontaneously and ages for several months on the lees in tank and wood. This gives it, besides freshness, depth, structure and grip.
On the palate
The delicate red fruit sits within a firm, almost powdery phenolic structure with silky polish, driven by vibrant acidity and carried by fine mineral tension. Dry, 12.5% vol., finesse and substance in one.
Special features
Hand harvest, spontaneous fermentation and the long lees ageing turn this rosé into a wine with structure, owing its core to the old vines of the La Noue vineyard. Farming is organic and biodynamic. Bottling takes place at Domaine Claude Riffault in Sury-en-Vaux.
