About this wine
Character
A dry white wine that shows Bierzo's cooler side: 13.0% ABV, crisp acidity, clear contours. The cool 2021 vintage is noticeable, and it suits the wine well.
Terroir and origin
Lía Fariña founded Sangarida in 2019 in Bierzo, the region between Castile and León and Galicia, where her mother is from. The vineyards of San Lorenzo del Bierzo are rooted in iron-rich, slate soils. The Godello grapes grow in two sites at 550 and 650 metres altitude, while the Doña Blanca vines are between 114 and 123 years old.
Grape variety and vinification
Godello and Doña Blanca in equal parts, both native to this Atlantic-influenced region. Godello contributes structure and citrus notes, while the little-known Doña Blanca brings floral elegance and texture. The grapes are destemmed and fermented together in used oak barrels, followed by twelve months on fine lees in 228- and 500-litre barrels. The winery is advised by Jean-François Hébrard.
On the palate
Acid-driven, with plenty of grip and juicy freshness. Peach and citrus fruit stand out, the texture is silky, the line direct, the finish spicy and saline. The oak conceals nothing — it contributes texture and complexity.
Food pairings
The high acidity calls for a fitting match: ceviche or tabbouleh.
Special features
Sangarida is run by the Fariña family, who also work with Attis Bodegas y Viñedos in Rías Baixas. The name comes from Greek mythology: a tree nymph who won the heart of Attis.
