About this wine

Character

An orange wine that Alfredo Arribas produces from Grenache Gris in the high-altitude sites of the Montsant. Vins Nus, Catalan for "naked wines", means controlled omission: virtually no oak barrels, no excessive extraction, no sulphites, no enzymes. What remains is the tannic structure as backbone and an acidity that altitude has preserved.

Terroir and origin

Two hectares in Gritella in the north of the region, replanted by Arribas. The vines sit between 760 and 820 metres with a northerly aspect on yellow, clay soils, surrounded by the nature park, where the nights stay cool even in high summer.

Grape variety and vinification

100% Grenache Gris, a deeply coloured mutation of Grenache Noir with an affinity for oxidative ageing. The whole grapes are pressed after four hours of skin contact and fermented spontaneously in amphorae and steel. 13.0% ABV, pH 3.0, dry.

On the palate

Pale orange with a silky, matte sheen and a slight haze. On the nose, dried apples and dried fruit, ethereal orange zest, along with pale tobacco leaf, white pepper, wet chalk and mace. The entry brings juicy fruit and mild spice, followed by a rough, animating texture of fine-grained tannin. The moderate acidity is finely woven, the tannin supple.

Food pairings

A wine for spice-forward cuisine: red lentil dal curry with wild garlic, tajine-style mackerel with aubergine, dried apple and ras el hanout, or pork chops with parsnip and dried plum.

Special features

Made without added sulphur and built for a few years of bottle age. The label features a Calder mobile, a kinetic sculpture set in motion by the wind.
