About this wine
Character
Brisat means skin contact, and that's what this white wine thrives on: brilliant lemon yellow with deep orange reflections, a wild, exotic nose of green mango and grapefruit. The largest part is taken by caramelised quince and orange in all its facets, while orange and apple blossom along with almond soften the picture. Cinnamon and clove slip in through the back door.
Terroir and origin
The native grape varieties grow in Catalonia at 480 metres above sea level. Vins Nus, Catalan for "naked wines", was founded in 2005; Barcelona architect Alfredo Arribas works here through omission rather than addition: no extraction, barely any wood, no added alcohol, no manipulated colour.
Grape variety and vinification
A blend of Grenache Blanc, Xarel·lo and Macabeu with extended skin contact. Half the grapes ferment as whole clusters, the other half destemmed, both in large wooden vats and amphorae. The wine then ages in horizontal concrete eggs.
On the palate
Forceful, but never overpowering. Nutty and salty, with pronounced umami, followed by orange, mandarin and grapefruit in every form: juice, pith, zest, skin. The tannin stays soft, and despite all its intensity the wine remains lithe and almost racy. It grows juicier with every sip, and the aromatics carry through to the finish.
Distinctive features
The InStabile series knows only one rule: no sulphur, ever. The wines carry numbers instead of names and changing Latin subtitles, here In Albis. On the label, a Calder mobile, a kinetic sculpture set in motion by the wind. The wine itself, too, keeps changing for hours after the bottle is opened.
