About this wine
Character
Dominik Huber classifies the wines of Terroir al Limit along Burgundian lines: Villages, Premier Cru, Grand Cru. The Terra de Cuques sits at the village level and forms the entry point: juicy, direct, immediately approachable. Vinified dry, moderate in alcohol at 13.0% vol.
Terroir and origin
The winery is located in Torroja del Priorat, right at the heart of the Priorat. Slate, steep terraces and Mediterranean heat determine what grows here. Huber farms his 15 hectares organically and biodynamically, uses biodynamic preparations to cope with the hot summers, and is among the earliest harvesters in the region.
Grape variety and vinification
Grenache blanc and Pedro Ximénez. Since 2009 the winery has worked with whole-cluster infusion: the berries stay whole, nothing is crushed, nothing is pumped over the cap, and pigeage is no longer practised. Head winemaker Tatjana Peceric is responsible for winemaking and the vineyards. The principle is infusion rather than extraction.
On the palate
Pale straw yellow with greenish highlights. On the nose, lemon zest, white blossom and delicate herbs, with a spicy note of wet slate behind. Juicy and taut in structure, carried by lively acidity, the fruit stays restrained, the finish precise.
Food recommendations
This wine calls for seafood: gambas al ajillo, sole in butter, pulpo a la gallega. It also pairs well with grilled vegetables with aioli or a simple saffron rice dish.
Special features
Dominik Huber founded Terroir al Limit in 2004 together with South African winemaker Eben Sadie, who left the project in 2012. In neighbouring Montsant, Huber and Peceric run the sister project Terroir Sense Fronteres, where no wood is used in the cellar.
