About this wine
Character
The Terra de Cuques negre 2017 is Terroir al Limit's village wine and the entry point into the estate's range: juicy, direct, immediately approachable. The nose is rich and warm, while on the palate a lively acidity carries the dark fruit and keeps it in motion.
Terroir and origin
Torroja del Priorat, in the heart of the Priorat. The vines grow on slate and clay-slate soils, and the cool Llicorella note characteristic of the Priorat remains clearly recognisable in the wine. Dominik Huber is among the earliest harvesters in the region, countering the hot summers with biodynamic preparations in the vineyard.
Grape variety and vinification
A blend of 50 percent Carignan and 50 percent Grenache Noir. Since 2009 the estate has worked with whole-cluster infusion: the berries stay whole, they are not crushed, there is no pump-over and no punch-down. The 15 hectares are farmed organically and biodynamically. 14.0% vol., dry.
On the palate
Juicy attack, black cherry, mulberry and elderberry over slate minerality, spiced with bay leaf, dried tomatoes and black olives. Rich in extract, propelled by the acidity, while the ripe, velvety tannins set an austere, drinkable note against it.
Food pairings
Fresh white cheese with smoked beetroot, wild herb salad and dill oil, tagine with stockfish, quince and ras el hanout, or braised hare with juniper and bay leaf.
Special features
The 1500 ml magnum. Dominik Huber founded Terroir al Limit in 2004 together with Eben Sadie in Torroja; today he runs the estate with Tatjana Peceric, who is responsible for winemaking and viticulture. Their guiding principle: infusion instead of extraction, finesse drawn from work in the vineyard.
