About this wine
Character
The Terra de Cuques blanc 2022 is Terroir al Limit's white village wine from Priorat, a blend of 60% Garnacha Blanca and 40% Pedro Ximénez that forgoes oak entirely yet is still full-bodied and complex. Golden in the glass, with a layered, highly intense nose: apple, quince and pepper, underpinned by that stimulating, subtle reductive note that marks several of the estate's wines.
Terroir and origin
The vineyards lie at altitudes of up to 600 metres at the foot of the Montsant mountains. Dominik Huber founded the estate in 2004 in Torroja, and today runs it together with winemaker Tatjana Peceric. 15 hectares are farmed organically and biodynamically; to counter the hot summers, the two rely on biodynamic preparations in the vineyard and an early harvest.
Grape variety and vinification
The whole clusters ferment spontaneously in steel and concrete tanks, after which the wine is aged for six months in concrete tank. No pigeage, no barrel: since 2009 the estate has favoured whole-cluster infusion over extraction. Vinified dry, 13.0% vol.
On the palate
Full-bodied and creamy, decidedly powerful yet never heavy. The fine, silky tannins come from skin contact during fermentation and give the wine its backbone. For a hot vintage like 2022, it remains remarkably fresh and citrusy, with plenty of grip and tension. The finish is spicy, mineral and long.
Food pairings
A highly gastronomic wine that calls for a partner on the plate: grilled tuna.
Special features
The invigorating spiciness here comes not from oak, but from its absence. The sister project Terroir Sense Fronteres in neighbouring Montsant follows the same philosophy.
