About this wine

Character

The Vèrtebra 2021 is the village wine from Terroir Sense Fronteres, crafted from Garnacha Tinta grown in the village of La Figuera in Montsant. At 12.5 percent alcohol it remains light and nimble, yet structured and concentrated. The nose is inviting and sensuous: fresh red and blue fruit, underpinned by subtly reductive and earthy-mineral notes.

Terroir and origin

The grapes come from various vineyards around La Figuera. The soils there are predominantly clay and gypsum, the vines average 60 years of age and are farmed biodynamically. The plots lie at around 700 metres, a notable altitude for Montsant. Here the Mediterranean climate meets cool nights and slow ripening, which gives this red wine its freshness.

Grape variety and vinification

100 percent Garnacha Tinta. There is no destemmer in the Terroir Sense Fronteres cellar: the grapes, stems included, are foot-trodden. The Vèrtebra ferments and ages exclusively in concrete tanks, with no oak involved. Sulphur additions remain minimal, with no fining or filtration.

On the palate

Slender body, fine-grained tannins. The wine feels elegant and light, yet powerful and aromatically intense. It builds plenty of grip, shows a linear drive and reveals the spiciness typical of Garnacha in its long finish.

Distinctive features

Terroir Sense Fronteres was founded in 2017 by Tatjana Peceric and Dominik Huber. The project is shaped above all by the Slovenian-born winemaker Tatjana Peceric, who has worked with Dominik Huber since 2012: early harvest for moderate alcohol levels, long maceration times, patience over intervention. Yields sit between 15 and 20 hectolitres per hectare.
