About this wine
Character
A white wine that is powerful and elegant at once, and takes its time. The nose initially feels composed, almost quiet, then opens up layer by layer with air: acacia, black locust and blossom honey first, then white flowers, chervil, tarragon, green almonds and hay, and finally clove, cinnamon blossom and wild strawberry. In the glass, pale straw yellow with green hues.
Terroir and origin
The grapes come from a single vineyard near Monleale in the Colli Tortonesi, at around 310 metres of altitude on limestone and clay soils. The vines are farmed sustainably, and harvesting is done by hand.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Timorasso. Fermentation happens spontaneously in a mix of ceramic, stainless steel and wood, followed by around 16 months on the lees and a further 12 months in bottle. No malolactic fermentation took place, preserving the malic acid. 13.5% vol., dry.
On the palate
Creamy richness and viscous texture, with liquorice, tarragon and black locust to the fore. Subtly tannic phenols set the boundaries at the edge of the tongue and give the wine drinkability, the mid-palate has pressure and depth, while filigree acidity works in the background. The finish is saline and long.
Food pairings
Risotto with white truffle, sole with caper butter and vitello tonnato, as well as tagliolini al tartufo bianco or aged Parmigiano Reggiano.
Notable features
The Boscogrosso marks the pinnacle of Vietti's commitment to the Colli Tortonesi and is built for long-term development. The estate in Castiglione Falletto has existed since 1873, and since 1974 its bottles have carried original artworks by artists.
