About this wine
Character
The Gevrey-Chambertin "Les Corbeaux" 1er Cru 2022 is a Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits built on finesse rather than power. Jean-Louis Trapet runs the domaine in its seventh generation, seeking aromatic depth, fine-grained tannin, and transparency to the terroir. At 12.5% ABV, the wine remains light-footed and dry.
Terroir and origin
Domaine Trapet Père & Fils is based in Gevrey-Chambertin and farms 18.5 hectares. In its vineyards, Jean-Louis Trapet found fossilized oyster shells: the soil was once a seabed, lending saline, chalky notes beneath the cherry fruit. Above this work stands the family's motto, "Les hommes passent et la terre reste" ("Men pass, the land remains").
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Pinot Noir. Jean-Louis Trapet has farmed biodynamically since 1996, with precise soil work and a philosophy of observing rather than intervening. In the cellar, gravity moves the wine; the grapes are guided, not forced.
On the palate
Silky texture, fine-grained tannin, cherry and earthy nuances, along with the chalky, saline vein and a freshness that carries the wine.
Food pairings
Roast pigeon, pink-roasted saddle of lamb, braised pheasant, veal chop with morels, or mild Comté.
Special features
In the 1880s, Arthur Trapet secretly grafted vines onto American rootstock, forbidden at the time but permitted from 1888 onward. The Guide des meilleurs vins de France awards the domaine three stars, its highest rating.
