About this wine
Character
A Barolo of great power that carries its strength with elegance: playful, spicy and marked by that floral note which is hard to pin down. Beetroot guides the fruit into earthy territory, while chalky nuances reminiscent of wet chalk give it an almost saline edge.
Terroir and origin
The MGA vineyard Brunate lies in the municipality of La Morra, a south-facing slope at 350 metres of altitude, facing the village of Barolo. The subsoil is dominated by calcareous marl. The vines are 51 years old and trained in Guyot. From Castiglione Falletto, Vietti farms 75 hectares across nine crus.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Nebbiolo, harvested on 20 September. Gently pressed, the wine ferments for around three weeks in steel tank, with the cap of skins kept permanently submerged. Malolactic fermentation takes place after transfer to oak. The bulk of the wine ages in large casks, complemented by some small barriques. It is bottled without any filtration.
On the palate
Full of power and remarkably juicy, carried by fresh green aromas and length. The tannin shapes the palate but opens up quickly, becoming more approachable. Wild strawberry, sweet cherry, salty liquorice and mint return, with the tension holding well into a very long finish.
Food pairings
Grilled red mullet with celeriac purée and a red wine jus from the bones, smoked Jerusalem artichoke with gorgonzola, parsley salad and walnuts, or roasted lamb rump with butter beans.
Special features
The Magnum format slows the wine's bottle ageing. Vietti has existed since 1873; since 1974, its bottles have featured original artworks by various artists, including a drawing by Pier Paolo Pasolini. Alfredo Currado vinified individual vineyards separately here as early as 1961. In 2025, the estate was named Azienda dell'Anno by Doctor Wine.
