About this wine
Character
A Nebbiolo of cool presence. Dark cherry and dried rose petals set the tone, with tar and liquorice beneath. The fruit doesn't push forward — the structure carries the wine. A Barolo that doesn't seek approval, but waits.
Terroir and origin
Ravera lies in Novello, among the higher-altitude sites of the Barolo zone. Limestone and marl, combined with elevation, produce a taut structure and a certain reserve in the fruit. The vineyard is one of nine crus that Vietti farms across 75 hectares, alongside Brunate, Lazzarito, Cerequio, Monvigliero and Villero. The estate has been based since 1873 in Castiglione Falletto, the medieval village on its 350-metre hill.
Grape variety and vinification
100% Nebbiolo. In 1961 Alfredo Currado began vinifying grapes from individual vineyards separately, creating one of the first Barolo crus; this single-vineyard philosophy still defines the house today. Ageing follows Langhe tradition: large wooden casks, long maturation, no shortcuts.
On the palate
Dry, with 14.5% vol. and no heaviness whatsoever. The tannins are tightly woven yet not hard, the acidity stays lively and draws the wine out long. The finish remains cool, with a saline-bitter note in the best sense.
Food pairings
With braised beef shoulder, wild boar ragù or risotto al tartufo. Aged Parmigiano and mushroom dishes also give the wine room without overpowering it.
Special features
The 3000 ml double magnum, bottled by Vietti in Castiglione Falletto. Since 1974 the bottles have carried original works by artist friends of the estate, including a drawing by Pier Paolo Pasolini. In 2025 Vietti was named Azienda dell'Anno by Doctor Wine.
