About this wine

Character

Restrained power. Bright red fruit, a noticeable acid structure that carries the wine without ever pushing forward, and a tannin that is exceptionally gentle for a Nebbiolo. Delicate and elegant in presentation, yet with a depth and length built to last for decades.

Terroir and origin

The Ravera cru belongs to the commune of Novello. Vietti holds 2.4 hectares here at 400 metres of altitude, facing west to southwest, on soils rich in calcareous marl. The average vine age is 35 years, with the oldest section planted in 1935.

Grape variety and vinification

Pure Nebbiolo, harvested on the 8th and 9th of October. After gentle pressing, the must ferments with the skins for around three weeks in steel tanks, with the cap punched down continuously. Malolactic fermentation takes place after transfer to the oak casks. The wine is aged for nearly 30 months, mostly in large casks, complemented by small barriques. Bottling is done without any filtration, and the wine continues to develop in the bottle.

On the palate

The wine flows silky and smooth across the palate, its acidity lending drive and structure. On the nose, redcurrant, wild raspberry and sour cherry lead, joined by barberry and currant, white pepper, a touch of allspice and juniper. Dried Mediterranean herbs, cocoa butter, milk chocolate as well as undergrowth and forest floor remain in the background. On the finish, the fruit turns darker and spicier.

Food pairings

Lamb saddle crépinettes with savoy cabbage and glazed peach, turbot fillet with poached goose egg and morels, or fettuccine with white truffle and egg yolk.

Distinctive features

Vietti in Castiglione Falletto has been working since 1873; Alfredo Currado vinified one of the first Barolo crus in 1961. Since 1974, the bottles have featured original artworks by artists, including a drawing by Pier Paolo Pasolini. In 2025, the estate was named Azienda dell'Anno by Doctor Wine.
