Barolo DOCG Riserva "Villero" 2016 1500ml Magnum

This Barolo Riserva holds richness and polished elegance together. Even the bouquet comes across as fine and flawless despite the power behind it: slightly ethereal, with foliage and undergrowth, red and dark berries, orange peel, plus smoke, bresaola, aniseed, mineral and cherry pits. In the glass, medium cherry red with clear transparency and a light orange tinge at the rim.

The Villero vineyard lies in Castiglione Falletto and ranks among the most important sites in the entire Barolo region. The plot measures just over one hectare, faces south and southwest, and has a very high clay content. In 2016, the yield was 42 hectolitres per hectare, with harvest on 5 October.

Single-varietal Nebbiolo from vines with an average age of 47 years, planted at a density of 4200 vines per hectare. After gentle pressing, the juice fermented for around four months in stainless steel on the skins, with regular pump-overs; before and after fermentation it macerated using the traditional submerged cap method. Malolactic fermentation took place in used barrique, after which the wine aged for 30 months in large oak cask.

Floating and grounded at once, fine and deep. A sweet fruit core meets clean acidity and a polished tannin that retains its firmness. Concentrated, dense, with great depth and a texture that fills the palate. Dry, 15.0% vol.

Vietti has existed since 1873 in Castiglione Falletto. From 1961 onward, Alfredo Currado vinified the grapes of individual vineyards separately here, and since 1974 the bottles have carried original works by artists. This Riserva comes in a 1500 ml magnum.
