About this wine
Character
A Riserva of great density that never flaunts its power. Fullness and polished elegance sit side by side, joined by a sweet fruit core and a tannin that retains firmness.
Terroir and origin
The Villero vineyard in Castiglione Falletto faces south and south-west; Vietti farms just over one hectare here. The clay content of the soil is very high. The vines are planted at a density of 4,200 per hectare and average 47 years of age; in 2016 the yield was 42 hectolitres per hectare.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Nebbiolo, harvested on 5 October. After gentle pressing, the juice fermented for around four months in stainless steel in contact with the skins, with regular pump-overs; maceration before and after fermentation followed the traditional submerged cap method. Malolactic fermentation took place in used barriques, followed by 30 months of ageing in large oak casks.
On the palate
Medium cherry red with clear transparency and a slight orange tinge at the rim. The nose is slightly ethereal, combining foliage and undergrowth with red and dark berries and orange peel, followed by smoke, bresaola, aniseed, minerality and cherry stones. On the palate it is both weightless and grounded, refined and deep: sweet fruit core, clear acidity, polished tannin, and a texture that fills the palate. 15.0% vol., dry.
Special features
Vietti has worked in Castiglione Falletto since 1873. From 1961, Alfredo Currado began vinifying the grapes of individual vineyards separately, and since 1974 the bottles have featured original artworks by various artists. Today the estate owns 75 hectares across nine crus; in 2025 Vietti was named Azienda dell'Anno by Doctor Wine.
