About this wine
Character
A deep, intense yet refined Vosne-Romanée whose youthful power stays wrapped in velvet. At 13.0% vol., the wine remains dry and lithe without losing any concentration.
Terroir and origin
The Les Barreaux parcel faces east, sits directly above Cros Parantoux and adjoins the Grand Cru Richebourg. It lies slightly higher on the slope, an advantage in the era of climate change. The soil carries plenty of iron and magnesium, mixed with pink marl.
Grape variety and vinification
Pinot Noir. Arnaud Sirugue, fifth generation of Domaine Robert Sirugue, and Sophie Noëllat, sixth generation of Domaine Michel Noëllat, have run twelve hectares in Vosne-Romanée since 2023; their formula is precision and finesse. In warm vintages they increasingly work with whole-cluster fermentation. Ageing lasts 12 to 15 months in barrel, with restrained use of oak: on the nose, the wood remains just one note among many, with a touch of vanilla.
On the palate
Concentrated dark fruit, alongside undergrowth, spice, meatiness and violet floral notes. On the nose beforehand, ripe dark cherries, pomegranate seeds, blackberry and raspberry, violet and peony, sandalwood, leather and truffle over a cool, smoky-seeming reduction. The texture is sensuous, the minerality dark and iron-tinged, the finish long. A transparent, weightless wine with verticality and a firm handshake.
Special features
Les Barreaux is also woven into family history: Jean-François Jayer, uncle of Henri Jayer, once married into the Sirugue family. In 2023, Arnaud and Sophie fully took over the Sirugue legacy and completed their new cellar.
