About this wine
Character
Dark cherry and violet ride on fine-grained, silky tannins. Even young, the 2023 already reveals the depth that the Grands Échézeaux vineyard is known for, carried by a clean freshness that keeps the concentration in shape. A wine for the next decade and beyond.
Terroir and origin
Grands Échézeaux lies between Clos de Vougeot and Échézeaux and forms the pinnacle of the range at AS Sirugue-Noëllat. Limestone and red clay give the estate's Pinot Noir its structure. Sophie Noëllat, sixth generation of Domaine Michel Noëllat, and Arnaud Sirugue, fifth generation of Domaine Robert Sirugue, have run twelve hectares in Vosne-Romanée since 2023.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Pinot Noir. In warm vintages, the couple increasingly use whole-cluster fermentation, which preserves freshness and refines the tannins. Ageing lasts 12 to 15 months in barrel, with restrained use of oak. Precision and finesse, says Sophie Noëllat, are the house's guiding principles.
On the palate
Concentrated and dense, with black cherry, ripe blackberry and dark plum, alongside spice, undergrowth and a subtle toasty note. The 13.5% vol. stays neatly woven into the dry structure, and the finish lingers long.
Food pairings
Saddle of venison with cranberries, coq au vin or duck breast with cherry sauce, also beef fillet and wild mushroom ragout. For cheese, a mature Époisses.
Special features
In 2023, Arnaud Sirugue and Sophie Noëllat took over the Sirugue legacy in full and completed the new chai at 5 Place de la Mairie. Through Jean-François Jayer, who once married into the Sirugue family, the family tree traces back to Henri Jayer.
