History and takeover

An extraordinary discovery marked the beginning of Weingut am Klotz. When the families behind the Reinecker sparkling wine estate and Fritz and Friedrich of Weingut Franz Keller came across a hidden estate at the Isteiner Klotz in 2018/2019, they immediately recognised its dormant potential. The lack of a successor gave them the unique opportunity to take over this little gem and lead it into a new era.

A unique terroir

The Isteiner Klotz gives the estate its unmistakable identity. This majestic rock not only provides a breathtaking backdrop but also holds a viticultural treasure: Jurassic limestone, a rock that is extremely rare in Germany and otherwise found mainly in the Jura and Burgundy. This geological peculiarity marks the character of the wines with exceptional minerality and depth.

Organic farming

For the new owners, converting to organic farming was a matter close to their hearts. This sustainable philosophy not only underlines their commitment to the environment but also makes the authenticity of this unique terroir tangible in every drop of wine.

The range

The range at Weingut am Klotz reflects the diversity of its exceptional sites:

Gutedel: The region's flagship variety is given a special interpretation at the Isteiner Klotz. The wine charms with its pale straw yellow and lively green glints, unfolding a zesty bouquet of crisp apples and sun-ripened citrus fruit.

Weissburgunder: "Im Scherben" is a textbook example of its variety. Its subtle straw-yellow colour is accompanied by a seductive scent of citrus fruit and delicate blossom. The fine minerality on the palate combines harmoniously with its velvety texture.

Spätburgunder: The 2018 vintage marked the start of a promising red-wine era for the estate and sets new standards for this noble grape variety.

Style and winemaking

The signature of Weingut am Klotz shows in wines of marked individuality. They reveal new, unexpected facets of familiar grape varieties and carry the unmistakable imprint of the Isteiner Klotz. Freshness, elegance and a pronounced, limestone-driven minerality come together in a unique taste experience.

In the winemaking, the estate takes a purist approach. Careful hand-picking and gentle selection of the grapes form the basis for authentic wines. In the cellar the principle of minimal intervention applies, as this is the only way the natural character of the grapes and the terroir can fully unfold.

Outlook and conclusion

The combination of the exposed location, the exceptional terroir and a consistently organic approach is paving the way for Weingut am Klotz to reach a top position on the German wine scene. Even the first vintages hint at the extraordinary quality potential of this up-and-coming estate.
