About this wine
Character
The Pinot Noir "In der Ritti" 2022 is a dry red wine from Weingut am Klotz in Efringen-Kirchen/Istein, grown on the Isteiner Klotz in the Markgräflerland. At 12.5% vol. it stays lean, favoring freshness, structure and a cool mineral core over fullness.
Terroir and origin
The "In der Ritti" site lies on the Isteiner Klotz, a rocky outcrop in southwestern Baden. Its Jurassic limestone is a rarity in Germany and gives the estate's wines their minerality and depth. Freshness, elegance and a distinctive limestone character are the hallmark of these sites.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Pinot Noir. Hand harvesting and careful selection of the grapes form the basis; in the cellar, the principle of minimal intervention applies, so that the variety and limestone soil can speak unfiltered. The estate's red wines began with the 2018 vintage, and the 2022 continues this young line.
On the palate
Ruby red with violet reflections. On the nose, ripe dark fruit, cherry and blackberry, along with spicy notes and a chalky tone. Dry and structured, with fine acidity, a soft flow and tannin that carries the fruit.
Food pairings
Pairs well with beef, such as a fillet with herb butter, with game dishes and roast duck with red cabbage. Mushroom risotto and wild mushrooms on polenta also suit it well.
Special features
The families of the Reinecker sparkling wine estate, along with Fritz and Friedrich of Weingut Franz Keller, took over this estate in 2018/2019 after it was left without a successor, and converted its cultivation to organic viticulture.
