About this wine

Character

This dry Weissburgunder from the Ried Gollin combines power and finesse, focusing on depth rather than superficial fruit. Hajszan Neumann is the biodynamic natural wine project of Fritz Wieninger on Vienna's Nussberg, where distinct edges and individuality are expressly welcomed. 13.5% ABV.

Terroir and Origin

Ried Gollin is a vineyard on the Nussberg, situated between the Ulm and Rosengartel sites. The soils consist of limestone and weathered shell limestone with a high clay content. The Nussberg in Grinzing is one of the capital's most traditional vineyard sites; Hajszan Neumann cultivates 20 hectares here, all according to biodynamic guidelines.

Grape Variety and Vinification

Pinot Blanc, known in Austria as Weissburgunder. The grapes were harvested and selected by hand, macerated on the skins for about six hours, and then gently pressed. The must, pre-clarified by settling, fermented with indigenous yeasts in large wooden casks, followed by a moderate period on the fine lees. It was bottled after gentle filtration, without any fining agents, making it vegan.

On the Palate

Yeasty, creamy, and simultaneously refreshing, with an impression of apple and pear skin that brings fine spice and subtle tannin. On the nose, ripe pear, honeydew melon, fragrant meadow flowers, aniseed, saffron, and candied almond; with aeration—which it handles exceptionally well—notes of sea breeze and seashell emerge. Excellent ageing and development potential.

Food Pairings

A wine to accompany hearty cuisine with earthy components.

Special Features

Erste Lage (1.ÖTW). The winery is certified according to respekt-BIODYN, and Fritz Wieninger serves as co-president of the association. He took over the estate in 2014 from Stefan Hajszan and Heinz Neumann; in 2006, Stefan Hajszan was the first Viennese winemaker to convert to biodynamics.
