About this wine
Character
Taut, cool, deep. This wine places juicy citrus fruit alongside a salty, chalky minerality, holding both together with finely contoured phenolics that give it grip. Nutty richness and a clear structure are not mutually exclusive here.
Terroir and origin
Les Blanches Voies is a tiny 0.8-hectare plot in Rilly-la-Montagne, planted with Chardonnay in 1964 and one of the rare south-facing sites on very chalky, lean soils. The Huré family's estate, run by François and Pierre Huré, is located in Ludes (Premier Cru) in the Montagne de Reims and farms around 10.5 hectares across roughly forty plots.
Grape variety and winemaking
Pure Chardonnay, selectively hand-harvested and spontaneously fermented with the vineyard's own indigenous yeasts. Ageing lasts 15 to 18 months in 600-litre oak casks, with malolactic fermentation deliberately blocked. The Champagne then matures for several years on its lees under natural cork. Dosage: 1.5 g/l, Extra Brut.
On the palate
On the nose, lime zest, cedro lemon and the white mesocarp of the peel, alongside a salty sea breeze, beeswax, linseed oil, white blossom, brioche, roasted cashews and yellow apple. The medium-intensity mousse carries clear citrus fruit, underscored by chalky salinity and a slight smokiness. The finish stays long, citrus-driven and cool.
Food pairing recommendations
Oysters and raw seafood, scallops, grilled turbot with lemon butter, langoustines and aged Comté.
Special features
In the 4 Éléments series, each grape variety comes from a single plot and is vinified separately; the Chardonnay comes from Les Blanches Voies. In the vineyard, the estate works organically, partly biodynamically, without herbicides since the mid-2000s.
