About this wine

Character

A Barbera whose dark, rich fruit never turns opulent, as contrast, spice and freshness hold it together from the start. The 2023 vintage feels elegant, almost weightless, with a fine ethereal nuance. Gripping, distinctive, multilayered.

Terroir and origin

The grapes grow across the three vineyards of Mosconi, Ravera and Gabutti, on Tertiary limestone marl, at an average altitude of around 350 metres. Chiara Boschis has run the estate in the heart of Barolo since 2010 together with her brother Giorgio: eleven hectares in Barolo, Monforte and Serralunga, nine generations of winegrowing.

Grape variety and vinification

Barbera, harvested on 26 and 27 September 2023. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with the cap punched down regularly, producing aromatic, intense fruit. The wine then ages for 16 months in second- and third-fill French barriques. 14.0% vol., dry.

On the palate

Fleshy and immediately approachable, yet taut. Sour cherry defines the taste intensely and precisely, alongside morello cherry, plum, blackberry and a touch of cassis, underscored by cedarwood, juniper, rosemary and thyme. Tannins stay in the background; the gripping, demanding acidity lends drive and energy, leading into a long, filigree finish that brightens toward the end.

Special features

Chiara Boschis was the only woman among the Barolo Boys, who championed shorter maceration times and ageing in French barriques to produce more approachable wines earlier. In the Cannubi vineyard, she was the first to switch to organic farming, and with the Cannubi Bio project convinced around 80 percent of that vineyard's growers to follow the same path by 2015.
