About this wine
Character
A charming, finely drawn Nebbiolo, cherry red and medium in transparency in the glass. The nose brings together ripe cherries and plums with cinnamon and almond, alongside blood orange, mint and rose.
Terroir and origin
Via Nuova was the name of a small vineyard near the centre of Barolo, named after the road to Novello laid out in the last century, of which only a footpath through the vines remains today. With the reorganisation of the additional geographical designations that came into force in 2010, the cru was absorbed into the larger subzone of Terlo. Since then, the wine has been a blend of Terlo and Liste in the commune of Barolo, Gabutti and Baudana in Serralunga d'Alba, as well as Ravera di Monforte and Mosconi in Monforte d'Alba.
Grape variety and vinification
Nebbiolo in the Michet and Lampia variants, blended in the classic way. Harvest began in early October, and the entire crop was in the cellar by 12 October. Fermentation took place in rotary tanks with two pump-overs per day and 14 days on the skins; malolactic fermentation also took place in steel. This was followed by two years of ageing in casks and barriques of French oak. 14.5% vol., dry.
On the palate
Medium-bodied, with pleasant firmness and good drive. Floral and approachable, balanced and energetic, carried by lively acidity and ripe, fine tannin. A Barolo still in development.
Food pairings
With braised beef, braised lamb, dishes with Piedmont truffle and aged Castelmagno.
