About this wine
Character
A Barolo that holds sensuality and structure together. Warm, ripe fruit and an impeccably silky tannin on one side, a cool, almost metallic vein on the other. Chiara Boschis has worked with green harvesting, shorter maceration and French oak since her earliest vintages: the wines become approachable sooner without losing their ageing potential.
Terroir and origin
The plot covers 0.7 hectares in Cannubi, the heart of the appellation, and was planted in 1982. The soil shows a marked sandy component, and the south-facing exposure gives the grapes exceptional intensity - together producing an unusually harmonious wine. In total, the estate cultivates eleven hectares across Barolo, Monforte and Serralunga.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Nebbiolo, in the Michet, Lampia and Rosé variants. Harvest began in early October, and the entire crop was in the cellar by 12 October. Fermentation took place in rotary tanks with two pump-overs a day, with the wine staying on the skins for 14 days. Malolactic fermentation also took place in steel, followed by two years in casks and barriques of French oak. 14.5% ABV, dry.
On the palate
Garnet red, medium transparency in the glass. On the nose, plum, cherry and cherry stone, red berries, along with marzipan, mint, a touch of eucalyptus and candied lavender over a note of iron. The wine remains balanced and elegant, carried by silky tannin and clean, fresh acidity; joined by blue fruit, floral hints, a touch of wood and earth. A calmly flowing stream, a great vintage.
Distinctive features
Cannubi yields only around 300 cases a year, no more. Chiara Boschis was the first to convert this site to organic farming, and the estate has been certified organic since 2014. With the Cannubi Bio project, she persuaded around 80 percent of the site's growers to follow the same path by 2015. Since 2010 she has run the estate together with her brother Giorgio, in the ninth generation of winemaking.
