About this wine
Character
A clear, fresh sparkling wine with a classic Blanc de Blancs profile. The nose brings together green and yellow apples and pears with lemon, ginger and lemon curd, backed by pastry notes and a subtle hint of yeast from the long bottle ageing. In the glass, an intense straw yellow with a fine mousse.
Terroir and origin
The grapes grow on the estate's 21 hectares in Oestrich-Winkel in the Rheingau. The sparkling wine draws on the somewhat higher, cooler vineyards; their grapes are picked at the very start of harvest. Slate and quartzite define the estate's soils and give the wines their minerality.
Grape variety and vinification
A cuvée of Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois. The base wine ferments spontaneously, followed by traditional bottle fermentation with 24 months of ageing on the lees in bottle. As a Brut Nature, this sparkling wine comes with no dosage, no added sugar to soften the acidity. In the cellar, the estate works with a light touch, without fining and with minimal use of sulphur.
On the palate
Clear and precise, juicy, with fine acidity and a lively perlage. The texture remains creamy, the impression mineral and energetic, with pleasant drive and a mouthwatering finish.
Special features
Peter Jakob Kühn farms the vineyards according to Demeter biodynamic principles; the estate has held the certification since 2009, and the Demeter logo appears on the label. The switch to biodynamic farming in the early 2000s was initially seen as eccentric in the Rheingau. Founded in 1786 by Jacobus Kühn, the estate is today run by the twelfth generation, Peter Bernhard and Viktoria.
