About this wine
Character
The Fleurie Climat "Poncié" Zen favours clarity over power: violet, raspberry and cherry, paired with a silky texture and cool freshness. At 12.5% vol., the wine stays lithe and keeps its drinkability across the whole glass. Served lightly chilled, the floral notes come through most clearly.
Terroir and origin
The grapes come from the Climat Poncié within the Fleurie appellation, one of the Beaujolais crus known for elegant, floral Gamay wines. They are supplied by partner winegrowers working organically or biodynamically; this condition applies to all of the brothers' Beaujolais sources. Harvesting is done by hand.
Grape variety and vinification
Pure Gamay. After harvest, the grapes are brought to the cellar of Domaine La Soufrandière in Vinzelles and vinified traditionally: whole-cluster fermentation as macération carbonique, spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, minimal sulphur addition. Ageing takes place in concrete tank or used oak barrel, without oak flavour overshadowing the fruit.
On the palate
Juicy and silky, with a fine tannic structure and lively acidity. The finish stays pure and fruit-driven, the moderate alcohol keeps the wine light.
Food pairing
A table wine in the best sense: with charcuterie and pâté de campagne, roast chicken, duck breast or rack of lamb. Mushroom dishes, stir-fried rice with vegetables and mild soft cheese also pair well.
Special features
Bret Brothers is the négociant project founded in 2001 by Jean-Philippe and Jean-Guillaume Bret, who took over Domaine La Soufrandière in 2000. They buy grapes exclusively from winegrowers practising organic or biodynamic viticulture.
