About this wine

Character

A cool-toned Gamay with a multi-layered bouquet: wild raspberry and redcurrant lead, joined by ethereal notes of ivy, violet and tarragon, with tree bark, licorice and green pepper behind. Freshness defines the wine from the first nose. In the glass, a translucent cherry red with ruby reflections.

Terroir and origin

The vines stand in the Climat Poncié on pink granite, on southwest-facing slopes. The 30-year-old vines yield small berries.

Grape variety and vinification

Varietal Gamay from organic or biodynamic cultivation, hand-harvested. In the cellar of Domaine La Soufrandière in Vinzelles, the must ferments for ten days through ZEN carbonic maceration, spontaneously with natural yeasts. Final fermentation and aging take place in eight-year-old barrels, with minimal sulfur addition.

On the palate

Light-footed with full fruit. The tannin structure is very mild, the acidity finely structured and lively, layered with a delicate fruit sweetness. Serve lightly chilled in Burgundy glasses.

Food pairings

With French charcuterie, a pumpkin-tomato tart with a Sbrinz-amaretti crust, and rabbit ragout with tomatoes, artichokes, celeriac and garlic.

Special features

Bret Brothers is the négociant project founded in 2001 by Jean-Philippe and Jean-Guillaume Bret for the Beaujolais. The brothers source grapes exclusively from growers who farm organically or biodynamically, and vinify them in their own cellar to the same standards as the wines from their family estate.
