About this wine
Character
A Chardonnay from Burgundy that holds richness and tension together. On the nose, ripe pear, apricot and orange zest, followed by freshly whipped butter, vanilla and praline, underscored by leather and café au lait. Delicate floral notes settle over the top.
Terroir and origin
The parcel lies in the village of Igé. Its soil is very healthy and fertile, rich in limestone, and this chalky imprint reappears in the wine as a saline streak.
Grape variety and vinification
Chardonnay from vines aged 20 to 30 years, hand-harvested from 17 to 20 September. Ageing takes place with wild yeasts, 100 percent in barrique, unfined, bottled with a small addition of sulphur. 12.5 percent alcohol, dry.
On the palate
Juicy and compact, at once playful and richly nuanced. The saline, mineral streak runs across the tongue with full intensity and points to great ageing potential. With sufficient aeration, the wine can already be enjoyed with pleasure now.
Food pairing suggestions
Its strength lies with intense sauces and richly spiced dishes.
Special features
Total production amounts to 8273 bottles. Behind the wine stand Jean-Philippe and Jean-Guillaume Bret, who founded Bret Brothers in 2001 as a négociant project, vinifying grapes from trusted growers to their own standards. To this end, the brothers work exclusively with partners practising organic or biodynamic viticulture.
