About this wine
Character
A rosé with weight: full-bodied, threaded with the liquorice note of the Mourvèdre and made for aging. Structure and depth define it, not lightness. The magnum format suits a wine that can take its time.
Terroir and origin
The vines stand at the highest point of Bandol, on the restanques: centuries-old, hand-stacked stone terraces that climb the slope like the tiers of a Greek theatre. Each level forms its own microclimate. From the estate's terrace, the view stretches over this amphitheatre of vines all the way to the Mediterranean. The soil is blue Triassic marl containing prehistoric fossils; the estate today covers around 50 hectares, up from 16 in 1977.
Grape variety and vinification
Mourvèdre and Cinsault. Éric de Saint Victor grew up among the barrels, joined the estate in 1989 and has run it since 2000; his aim is sensual wines without showiness, and his Mourvèdre comes across as velvety rather than aggressive. Cellar master Marie Laroze, with the estate since 2008, brings Burgundian precision to the work across 220 individual plots. The gravity-flow cellar the family built was ahead of its time.
On the palate
Full-bodied and velvety, with ripe red berries, herbs of Provence and liquorice, carried by a dense texture and layered spice. 13.5% vol., dry.
Food recommendations
The substance of this rosé stands up to hearty cuisine: bouillabaisse, lamb chops with herbs of Provence, pan-seared red mullet, pan-seared monkfish with a herb crust, or a spicy ratatouille.
Special features
The estate has been organic-certified since 2019. The magnum holds 1500 ml.
